Jowar Upma
A savoury Jowar upma with vegetables for a filling breakfast.
Ingredients
- Jowar (Sorghum)2 cups flour
- Carrot (Gajar)2 medium
- Peas (Matar)1 cup, shelled
- Onion1 medium, sliced
- 2 tbsp oil
- 1 tsp mustard seeds
- a sprig of curry leaves

Method
- 1Dry roast 1 cup broken Jowar until it smells nutty, then set aside.
- 2Heat 2 tbsp oil, add mustard seeds, curry leaves and let them splutter.
- 3Add 1 sliced onion and fry until the onion is soft and pale gold, about 5 minutes.
- 4Add the chopped Carrot, Peas, Onion and cook for 4 minutes.
- 5Pour in 3 cups hot water with salt, bring to a boil and stir in the roasted grain.
- 6Cover and cook on low for 10 minutes, then rest 5 minutes and fluff.
Storage: Cool completely and refrigerate in a covered box for up to 2 days.
Leftovers: Reheat in a pan with a splash of water; avoid boiling it a second time.
